Yes, I'm talking to you. Whether you have none (right now), one or many. Because we all will/do. Because I love you.
"It's not that big of a deal."
"It's hereditary, there's not much I can do about it."
"It's normal, it's just part of menopause."
"Oh, I've never been able to eat that."
"Everyone's dealing with something."
"I get this every year."
"It sucks getting older."
"I'm gonna do something about it, as soon as…"
"My mother had this too, it's inevitable."
"It'll pass."
Just indulge me for a moment, and suspend all you think you know about why you experience these nagging discomforts. Science, specifically the field of epigenetics, is confirming that although there is an element of truth in every one of the above statements, they DO NOT REPRESENT THE WHOLE TRUTH and they certainly are not the main crux of it.
When we ignore or disconnect from these signals until they go away; when we muscle through them (my personal favorite); or when we mask them with quick fixes, we cheat ourselves out of the gift that is their purpose and our greatest opportunity: INFORMATION. They are our physical body's way of communicating to us that we're out of balance. Period. Full Stop. DISEASE/CHRONIC ILLNESS ARISES OUT OF A STATE OF HOLISTIC IMBALANCE THAT IS PERSISTENTLY IGNORED. Hence the shockingly dysfunctional nature of our current medical system. Not that our amazing docs are to blame! Most are simply doing the best they can given the slice of truth they were taught, and many have the uncomfortable awareness that beyond diagnostics and critical care, modern "health care" is sadly lacking.
No one is going to manage this for you, but YOU can learn to interpret the signals. Enlist your doc less, and as your resource. YOU can identify your home base, become aware of when and how you drift toward imbalance, and learn about the easy tweaks and techniques to "return home". As a side note, your home base is not where anyone else's is, and it is not only where vibrancy awaits, but also happiness and fulfillment of your life's purpose.
We're not living in 500 A.D., or in an ashram in India, or in a hut in Bali (don't I wish sometimes!) We're living in the real world, with busy lives and fun to be had and jobs and families and TRAFFIC and responsibilities. But that doesn't mean that there isn't something we can do.
Sadly, we'll trudge through doctors appointments, spend oodles of money (ever add it up?) on co-pays, over-the-counter meds, prescriptions and procedures, suffer through all manner of discomforts, and accept the limitations imposed by compromised health… all because we've been conditioned to believe it's just the way it is. Similarly, we'll begrudge spending that same (and usually much less!) time and money to invest in knowing ourselves better and proactively managing our well-being. Does that really make sense? Is that really how you want to roll?
If you're wondering where to begin, welcome to Ayurveda. In 2 sessions, you'll learn about your home base, where you've drifted away from it, and how to return, with new tools and understandings you'll use throughout your life. Seriously, what have you got to lose? What might you gain?
