Finally, it's here! With the arrival of spring, there is an easy and inexpensive step you can take toward better health and home. I want to share a natural solution that, for years now, I've used to deal with some spring time issues: keeping bugs off my pets, plants (and me!) while I'm outside enjoying the garden or hanging with friends, and freshening/deodorizing the air in my home. Lemongrass essential oil has become a staple, allowing me to replace commercial air fresheners, some cleaning products AND bug repellents, and thereby eliminating the harsh chemicals they bring into the sealed environment (a.k.a air conditioning) of my home - and onto my skin. Plus it smells absolutely amazing! A bottle of lemongrass essential oil costs ~$10 and you simply add just 10 drops to 8 oz. of filtered water in a mister bottle. Pretty little glass bottles can be purchased for a couple of dollars and look great in your home, but recycled plastic ones work in a pinch. At that dilution strength, you will get all of the therapeutic benefits, and your $12 investment will yield roughly 30 bottles that you can liberally and safely spray everywhere, anytime. 30 bottles of air freshener alone would set you back ~$100! Whether you can afford it or not, that just doesn't make sense. PLUS, you can apply the lemongrass oil directly to your skin (or add it to a carrier oil like sweet almond, grape seed and even coconut to make the scent last longer); in fact, it has a high percentage of aldehydes as do many high-end perfumes.
Of course, I'd love it if you'd buy it from me, but wherever you source it, be sure to assess the quality/purity of the product. There are lots of good ones on the market now, but also some that are really just fragrance oils, and not the true plant essence, in which case you are giving up the benefits for just more of the same.
Here's to a happy, healthy, vibrant, long-awaited spring!
